Is the program at Commonwealth Institute recognized by my state?

Commonwealth Institute’s AAS program is currently recognized in all 50 states.

The Certificate program is currently recognized in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Florida, and Colorado.  However, our Certificate may satisfy your state’s educational requirements for funeral directing only licensure in several other states – as long as you have other postsecondary education.  Contact your state agency to see if our program will be recognized in the state in which you plan on seeking licensure.

See the Licensing Requirements page on our website for more information.

What if I have a prior conviction on my record? Can I still get licensed?

You will need to contact the state agency where you plan to get licensed prior to enrolling at Commonwealth Institute to see if you can get licensed. For students seeking a license in Texas they must contact the Texas Funeral Service Commission prior to enrolling to see if they are eligible for licensure.

Is financial aid offered for the programs?

We do accept financial aid for the Associate of Applied Science program only. The Certificate in Funeral Directing program is not eligible for financial aid.
