CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES

Part-time instructor:Comp. & Rhet. (English) – Houston, TX

Part-time instructor needed to teach Composition and Rhetoric for our Associate of Applied Science degree program at a small, private post-secondary institution. Applicant will teach face-to-face at the Institute’s north Houston location. Teaching obligation is for 11 weeks and begins April 9, 2024. Applicants MUST have a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in English or related discipline.

Are you a Commonwealth grad or a licensed funeral service professional and always thought you could teach the next generation?  Now is your chance!  Commonwealth Institute is looking for a new fulltime funeral service faculty member.  This position entails teaching on-campus here in Houston, teaching online classes (possibly), administrative duties, etc.  Commonwealth offers a Monday-Friday schedule, holidays off, benefits, and the opportunity to participate in conventions/funeral service organizations.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Be a Texas licensed funeral director AND embalmer (or have the ability to reciprocate)
  2. Have graduated from an ABFSE-accredited mortuary science program (like Commonwealth)
  3. Have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  4. Have an accredited master’s degree OR the ability to earn one within 5 years of hire
  5. Have excellent communication skills – interpersonal, public speaking, written, etc.
  6. Have the ability to learn and use software (online classes, student information systems)
  7. Have an expertise and interest in the subject matter and the ability to convey that information to the next generation of funeral service practitioners

Preferred Qualifications (in addition to those above):

  1. Have experience teaching or training (in some capacity)
  2. Have experience with online learning management systems (Canvas, Blackboard, etc.)
  3. Have additional professional credentials (CFSP, certified crematory operator, etc.)
  4. Have a specific interest and/or expertise in embalming and the science aspects of the funeral service profession
